Why
Chappelle's Show & BET Should Unite!
By: Jason Cunningham (5/21/2005)
It appears certain that
there will be no third season of Chappelle's Show on Comedy Central in 2005.
From a number of new sources including CBS, creative differences between
comedian Dave Chappelle and Comedy Central have led to production stoppage of
the show.
BET has a golden opportunity to
further legitimize itself if it attempts to get the Chappelle's Show. While
other comedians and music moguls in the past and present, such as Chris Rock and
P. Diddy have gone to other cable networks, this may be BET's chance to find
itself in every home in America.
Chappelle's Show is an America
phenomenon, in the way this comedy exposes many of our prejudices concerning
race, sex, politics, etc., but instead of trying to divide us, his show brings
us together, and gives us hope that we can make light of our ignorance.
I hope BET makes an offer for the show.
It would bring better ratings, and more money to the network. Dave
Chappelle and BET sounds like a match made in heaven.
