Why I am Behind Ricky Williams
Returning to the Dolphins!
By: Jason Cunningham (7/21/2005)
By October of this year, we will probably see the return
of Miami Dolphins' Ricky Williams. Remember the guy who gained over 6000
yards in his first five years in the NFL. I know he retired last year after
failing his third drug test of his career, but the people who wish his teammates
would not accept him back, are just out of touch with reality.
So what if money motivated Williams to come back to
the league. Let us look at the situation from a rationale prospective. Sure if I
was a Miami Dolphin player, maybe there would be some hostility towards him for
about a week for abandoning the team last year. Then common sense will
prevail after I remind myself of Ricky Williams' 8 million dollar plus signing
bonus. If he plays well this year, when my contract negotiations come up, maybe
some signing bonus will land its way in this lap. This has to be running through
somebody else's mind. Otherwise do you think if Ricky bails this time, a signing
bonus or extended contracts will be a thing of the past in Miami.
As good as Ricky Williams has been to the NFL, he
deserves another chance. He is a great one, who I believe will gain 900 yards
this season in 12 games, if not more. So yes, I am behind the return of Williams
to the Miami Dolphins.
