Why I Never Teach Young Men to
Be Sexually Active!
By Jason Cunningham (12/22/05)
There is a definite double standard in our
society, regarding the idea of sexual conquests between young men and women. If
you are a young man, then in many cases, your sexual experiences are considered
a "rite of passage," while a female is considered loose. We should be very
concern with the message that is being sent to young males, because the
breakdown of family within our society.
Whether liberal, conservative, or
indifferent, grown men have promoted to young males that they need to "sow their
oats" before marriage. So, I never give that use a condom speech, which is
repeated by others in our society. Actually I always disagreed with this
message, regardless of my shortcomings in life. It is basically giving a license
to be promiscuous, in spite of the lack of maturity, and the possibility of STDs
or unwanted pregnancies. There are not enough young men in our society who
can economically and emotionally take care of a child, in their teen years or
early twenties to promote a healthy family setting. Children need to have a
stable home, and there are too many stories of a child not knowing their father,
even if they reside in the same city.
I think it is also sad that there is
less emphasis on marriage today. This is partly why it is getting more popular
to get married beyond your twenties or not at all. I believe it is all tied into
this supposed "enjoy yourself state" that should occur before marriage.
The world is too dangerous to encourage such a deadly lifestyle. We need to
applaud young people who actually wanted to get married, instead of those who
want to be sexually active. Maybe this sounds like preaching, but realistically,
at the end of the day, the last thing you ever want to experience is walking
into a room, and knowing that more than one person in there knows you
intimately.
