Why Is Roy Jones Jr. Still Boxing?

By: Jason Cunningham (8/6/2006)

On July 29, 2006, Roy Jones Jr. decided to step in the boxing ring again. He won the match versus Prince Badi Ajamu, in a twelve round unanimous decision. Jones is just another boxer that cannot let go of the sport.

Roy Jones Jr. is no longer relevant as a boxer. If I had not watched ESPN this past week, I would not have know he boxed last weekend. The boxing match was held in Boise, Idaho, the place famous for "Smurf Turf." After losing three straight matches, Roy Jones Jr. finally found some competition that he could handle. I have never seen Prince Badi Ajamu in a big match before.

It would probably be a good decision for Jones to consider retirement. He had a illustrious career, and is a sure Hall of Famer. There is no need of him sustaining a serious injury that could result in brain damage or death. If Roy Jones Jr. walks away for boxing, no one will think anything less of him. However, none of us want to see him box a bunch of bums, only to get another prize fight and sustain an injury.
