Why is Wrestling Still Popular?

By: Jason Cunningham (7-26-2006)

People thought as my generation grew into adulthood, wrestling would decline into obscurity. It has been just the opposite. While sales growth in the industry has slowed, the wrestling business is well established.

Today, kids are aware that wrestling is staged. My generation is probably the last one that believed wrestling was real. I used to wake up every Saturday morning to catch a glimpse of Hulk Hogan, The Junk Yard Dog, and "Macho Man" Randy Savage. In this period of wrestling, it was the good guy versus the bad guy.

Wrestling storylines are now more sophisticated. A lot wrestlers are both good or bad. Women are much more involved as valets or wrestlers. People are not going to turn away from wrestling. It has entertaining wrestlers who can talk and wrestle, and plenty of beautiful women.
