Why The Colts Need to
Win the Superbowl Now?
By: Jason Cunningham (12/13/2004)
After yesterday's 23-14 victory over the
Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts now stand with a record of 10-3. Peyton
Manning, the QB of the Colts is now just three touchdown throws away from
setting a new NFL record of 49. The offensive juggernaut created by the
consistent play of Manning and all of his offensive weapons have put the Colts
in a great position to win the Superbowl.
The window of opportunity for a NFL generally
last two to three years at the most. Last year the Indianapolis were stop by
eventual Superbowl Champions, the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
What is different this year, the Colts can go to WR Marvin Harrison, Reggie
Wayne, or Brandon Stokley, TE Marcus Pollard or Dallas Clark, or RB Edgerrin
James, all of which have not suffered any serious injuries. If they all stay
healthy, regardless of whether the Colts must go on the road during the
playoffs, this offense should be in gear one.
Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison have now
signed long term deals with the Colt's organizations to stay put, therefore it
is necessary for the Indianapolis Colts to win the Superbowl this year, just in
case they are unable to sign Edgerrin James. Manning, Harrison, and James are
probably in the prime of their career, so if the defense can hold teams for the
rest of the year, 20 points and less, the team for Indianapolis should be able
to win it all.
