College Football: Penalties and Players
By: Jason Cunningham
It is about time the NCAA allows referees to announce who
committed the penalty in a sanctioned, college football game. For years, I had
heard that official governing body of college football did not want to embarrass
student athletes by revealing their miscue.
The NCAA finally got the rule right. College football players
are grown men, therefore it helps them grow as individuals by having the limited
negative reinforcement imposed, when their number is revealed after a penalty.
Also, the coaches no longer have to ask the referees who committed the
infraction. Now with the technology in the coaching booth, football players can
better isolate the reason for the penalty and correct it. This will help those
who need to work on their technique during the course of the football game.
The fans who pay enormous amounts of money also felt out of the
loop by not knowing who committed the penalty. It is very important that college
football becomes more fan friendly and this is a great start.
