Why the Pacers - Celtics Series Should Be Over!

By Jason Cunningham (5/07/05)

The Indianapolis Pacers lost a golden opportunity to close out the NBA series at home in game six versus the Boston Celtics. Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics with 12.9 seconds in regulation committed his second technical of the game and was automatically ejected. Future hall of famer and Pacer's star Reggie Miller sunk the technical shot, while Boston's Kendrick Perkins missed both of his free throws in place of Pierce and the game remained tied 84-84 after the exchange.

Reggie's shot with about four seconds in regulation did not even reach the rim, and the game went into overtime. The idea that Boston could pull out the victory without the services of All-Star Paul Pierce was preposterous. I was about to call my day to let him know the serious was officially over, but there is a such thing as jumping to conclusions. The Celtics possessed all of the energy in the overtime period, while Pacers appeared to have run out of gas.  Boston's Antoine Walker's three pointer in the extra period proved to be  the nail in the coffin as the Celtics won 92-89.

The Pacers should be getting ready to play the Detroit Pistons, but now they must win game seven in Boston today, otherwise watch Reggie Miller fade into retirement. Something tells me Miller and the rest of the Pacers will be ready for a high scoring affair.
