Why the Yankees Are Finished!
By: Jason Cunningham (10/20/2005)
The 2005 New York Yankees proved the
mystique may be gone. Yes they made the playoffs but the California Angels
helped put them out of their misery. It is amazing that a team with a 200
million dollar payroll could have so much strife!
Until the Yankees invest in some young
pitching, then that exclusive World Series ring they so desire, will be won by
somebody else. People can try to blame it on leadership, or whatever the press
is in New York, however the proof is in the results. The staff needs a pitcher
that would be an ace on another team. Hopefully in the offseason, the New York
Yankees will either develop someone in their farm system or make a trade for a
pitching prospect.
I rally believe that manager Joe Torre
will be back in 2006, but it will be his last season unless they win it all.
Like I said it will be his last year as the skipper of the team he has managed
since 1995. It might be time to trade Bernie Williams or another player to get a
live pitching arm. I know that sounds bad given Williams' loyalty to club,
however this a business and you have to make tough decisions on a daily basis.
