Why You Should Review
Your Life Insurance Policy
By: Jason Cunningham (8-20-2006)
At some point in point, all of us will experience
life changes. These changes may include moving to a new city, marriage,
childbirth, a new job, a considerable increase in salary, or even retirement.
While life events cause sudden change, it is necessary to review your life
insurance plan.
Generally, individuals get serious about life
insurance before the birth of a child, when buying a new home or sending the
children to college, and prior to signing their retirement papers. While these
are important events, an individual probably should review their life insurance
every two to three years, regardless of whether any of the discussed changes
occurs.
A significant change in income can often
leave you underinsured. Your current individual and group life insurance may not
be adequate enough to protect your family, in the event of a premature death. If
we die, most of us do want our family to maintain the same lifestyle.
Also, if you are getting married or plan on
having a child in the future, you probably should pull out your life insurance
policy. Changes in your life insurance program are common when couples get
married, because individuals often do not wish to leave their future spouses
with their debt obligations. Most people have several things to consider, when a
child comes into the world. Many people wish to carry some life insurance on the
child, as well as increase their own; so that the child has a enough money
to attend college, regardless of whether he or she is around to see it.
Please evaluate your life insurance. You
might be underinsured or overinsured and not even realize it. It is definitely a
good idea to review your life insurance policy, if you are getting married,
buying a new home, retiring, or having a child.
