Will There Be A US Troop Drawdown
in Iraq?
By: Jason Cunningham (8/4/2005)
When Democrats even mentioned the
possibility of bringing home some Us troops during the 2004 Election, they were
admonished dearly by conservatives in politics and in the media, and considered
not be serious about the "War on Terror." Fast forward to 2005, and now its
Republicans who are grumbling behind closed doors.
As we get closer to the 2006, Congressional
elections, you can be sure that some Republicans will break ranks with President
over the War in Iraq. President Bush was relentless yesterday, and drowned the
thought of pulling out troops in Iraq until the job is done. He claims we should
be focused on this war, a word that has not been heard from the White House in a
couple of weeks, by these pesky news watcher's ears. The President does not have
to run for re-election, so if he chooses to keep the troop level in Iraq steady,
then the American people who have lost faith in his policy may vote their
Republican Congress person right out of office next year.
Something radically needs to be done in Iraq
to put a strong police and military presence there, that is made primarily of
the Iraqi people. Getting Iraqis to defend themselves should be the catalyst for
bringing more troops home. The talk about the War in Iraq going well has been
momentarily stopped by the number of US troops deaths. Time will tell if the
President will change his mind about withdrawing troops, however I am very
confident he will.
