Kellen Winslow Sr.
Redefines Finding a Sports Agent
Article by: Jason Cunningham
The former NFL great, Kellen Winslow Sr. is
the subject of recent controversy due to his cooperative search in helping his
son, Kellen Winslow Jr., the great TE from the vaulted Miami
Hurricanes choose a sports agent. Winslow, the elder put an ad in search of a
sports agent, for his son, however there was one catch, any agent had to put up
a $2500, non-refundable fee for the interview for upfront expenses. Also, the
agent had to come to Miami, so the Winslow's wanted to be their own home turf.
Kellen Winslow Sr. clearly
has the right to question and review sports agent at his home. Otherwise his son
may be exposed to strip bars, drinking, and an ambiance of a non-business
sitting to influence his decision. So it is important to find an organization
that will best represent the future interest of his son. What has not been
made clear is how Kellen Winslow Sr. came up with the $2500 figure. Apparently
the interviews did not take place at home, yet in his defense, he did promise to
reimburse the agents fore money that was spent.
Kudos to Kellen Winslow Sr. for doing his
research before making a decision. Parents should be involved in the agent
process, because athletes are often nervous about team workouts. Another
interested person may come up with questions that someone may forget about, and
this can happen to an individual age twenty-one or fifty-four. Financial Shopper Network Sports, senior correspondent Markeith Reed could not be reached
for comments. (Maybe because it's an unpaid position).
