Yankees Joe Torre should not
be fired!
By: Jason Cunningham (10/05/2005)
It is almost laughable to think that
Yankees skipper Joe Torre could be fired. The man who has won four
Baseball World Championships in his tenure as manager of the New York team has
been nothing less than consistent, year after year. He has coached the same team
since 1995, and made six trips to the World Series.
In our hearts we all want to be
winners. Joe Torre is associated with those winners who are able to make their
mark in New York City. His name is as synonymous with the city as former mayor
Rudy Giuliani. Anybody who questions his ability to coach should look at
all the banners the Yankees hoisted during the 1980's and early 1990's, when he
was not the manager. They won nothing, and unless you were conscious in the
1970's then you forgot about Yankees' pride or greatness.
Torre belongs in the white and
pinstripes of the Yankees. In the last eight years his team has been in five
World Series and won three of them. This does not sound like a record of
mediocrity or one that should cause owner George Steinbrenner to make a change!
Maybe if King George of New York had kept pitchers Rogers Clemens and Andy
Pettitte, then the Yankees would not have been absent from the World Series the
last two years, but still they made the playoffs without a true pitching ace.
If Torre does not return to New York in 2006, he will be the number one
prospect for any general manager in the universe!
